Battlestar Galactica - a late game report!

The whole collective gathered at Steedo's 5 nights ago for a play through of the classic treachery game of Battlestar Galactica - with the Pegasus expansion (and probably a couple of other extra bits - just because we like to challenge ourselves. The colonials having only once before won - the Cylons winning on the several other occasions. Steedo picked Apollo, DK was Tigh, Sylon Hotdog, Snake-eyes Commander Adama (Admiral) and my good self Zarek (el President). Cylon cards were dealt and the game was a foot.
The first turn threw up a fairly easy check - which we inexplicably failed - there was some treachery already - was it Snake-eyes, Sylon or Steedo ..... Only time would tell.

The game moved on with us generally passing tests and getting closer to earth - the Cylon fleet board was always a concern but we managed to just stay ahead of any attacks and we're lucky that only one heavy raider was activated all game. New Cylon cards were dealt and as I was not happy with the fleet management I took the decision to bring the military and civilian branches of government together with Tom Zarek as Supreme Leader (sounds a bit Cylon ...) Admiral/President, which did turn out to be an almost good move, as Adama (Snake-eyes) revealed himself to be a Cylon and attempted to thwart the plucky colonials .....

However the Cylon fleet activated and caught some of the civilian ships in the open unprotected by Apollo .... Causing the fuel and something else go to zero and it was the end of the road for humanity! This was when Steedo revealed his sneaky and duplicitous nature of being a Cylon.
So another win to the Cylons - aka Snake-eyes and Steedo - who claimed to have only Cylons from the second dealing of cards. I had my suspicions of Snake-eyes hence my taking of the Admiral card, but Steedo put a lot of miss direction Sylon's way (name doesn't help), but he didn't put up enough of a counter case!
So to pay back Steedo's deviousness a picture to show he can't pour a pint .... Perhaps the Cylons signs were there along.

Kill Team - Dropship .... Rebuild

So I have spent a few hours on the Dropship - making skids and reassembling the tail fins.

The fins are cut down from the originals - I think there were 4 on the original model but I only had 2 which were damaged and a tail fin from the F16 kit which is now a crashed fighter.
The skids are made from sprues and wire and some white milliput - a little sanding might be needed. I and planned to get some acrylic rod and tube so I can make a flight stand - the tube projecting the same length from the belly as the skids, so that it would support the model in "landed" use.

Lots of terrain and basing to do now.

Kill Team - Terrain Update ...

So after a rather slow couple of weeks I have made a bit of progress with my Kill Team terrain - style wise it is in line with Starship Troopers so it can be multipurpose. All these need a bit of filling and bases sanded.

Top right - objective markers. Top left are tops which can be put on the buildings for a bit of variation. Bottom small building.

We have a downed ground attack jet (any passing a resemblance to an F16 is due to it being one!). The bottom right is a Dropship which I picked up very cheaply on Fleabay - planning to put skids and rebuild the tail.

This is the workshop/power centre for the base/outpost - plenty of tidying up to do on this.

The command building - top with one of the toppers. I have put some "plates" on the front of the building since I took these pictures.
I have also added to the large "land-pad" making it in to drilling rig - but I forgot to take a picture of it. So I have plenty to do - not including the actual decorating I ….. or should I say my "better half" has planned over the next couple of weeks.

Still have to finish the barbarians …… but I can't motivate myself for them at the moment.

Kill Team - Test Game

Snake-eyes and Steedo popped around for a test game of Kill Team (which was disrupted with discussions of the fiasco the UK is making with Brexit - stupid thing to do anyway). I had pointed out 2 teams, written out the cards and printed out quick play sheets. The fight would be between Primaris Space Marines and Imperial Guard Sicons. Snake-eyes and Steedo (who was also working on checking the rules) took command of the Space Marines - 3 Intercessors and 3 Reivers, while I had 8 Scions - with quiet a lot of heavy weapons. We set up the terrain, placed objectives and then picked the scouting plans - which cancelled each other out (set traps Snake-eyes and I pick clear traps).

Then we got on with the game - Snake-eyes winning the initiative and moving first and being able to shoot first in the shooting phase. It started well for Snake-eyes causing a flesh wound on my Flamer guy - but the first kill (out if action) went to the plucky guardsman with a Melta taking out at intercessor. I have to say one of my objectives was to keep my forces out of close combat with the Reivers, this tactic had major ramifications in the final turn. The next couple of turns saw a little more manoeuvring and shooting, but surprisingly few casualties to either side - either Snake-eyes missing (much to Steedo's annoyance) or my troops hit but failing to wound the uber primaris Space Marines. Snake-eyes and myself also discovered - or did he let it slip - Steedo's strategy for winning games - focus on the objective .... As he made Snake-eyes keep troops on the objective markers. As I pointed out earlier I was trying to avoid close combat with the Space Marines so my tactic had been to shot them off/away, but when one of the cowardly space Wombles is hiding behind a container it's rather difficult to draw a line of sight.

So come the final turn my advance wasn't enough to force the Marines off all of the markers or contesting them - not helped when I supercharged the plasma gun to vaporise a Marine only to get snake-eyes myself (the irony) and see my man vaporised ......
The final scores on the doors were 2 points (one objective held) to the Steedo and Snake-eyes Space Marines and 0 to me (we were contesting the other objective). Casualties were 1 Marine OOA (out of action), 1 with a flesh wound and one with a wound. For the guard it was 2 OOA, and 3 flesh wounds.
We had a really good evening playing Kill Team and we had forgotten to use the Command Points and the associated tactics which would go along with them - I think these will make the game better as the timing of playing some of them could change the outcomes of combats significantly. I think we also forgot some of the special rules for our factions as well.
I did think that we would get two games in but too much chatting got in the way. So it should keep me inspired to finish off some more terrain - the Skitarii to the table.

Got the builders in ...... With foam core board.

More slow building work on the planet Morts - some rough outlines on builds seen.
The tall one is the power facility - the old contact lens pots being the power cells - the lower ones living quarters and command centre.

I am planning to make some attachments for the roofs which can be move from building to building it be free standing to make some variety and interest. Also planning to make some objective markers such as ammo supplies/comma arrays.

Well they are the plans .... We will see how long they take .....

Kill Team - walls

So I have had a go at building a few walls for Starship Troopers and Kill Team - current work in progress. I am trying to style them like the Ironclad models observation room on the right of the picture with metal plates on the front (provided by a breakfast cereal box) - can't think of a quick and easy way to do the little bolts on the top of the plates - possibly milliput or green stuff.

I have a few bases ready for a hut/barracks/control room thing and an planning to use an old cookie insert for a power generator. Hopefully will have some pictures of that in the next couple of weeks. Show more progress on the building front. Got some Maelstroms Edge terrian sprues to improve what will be effectively foam core boxes.

Also managed to finish a Saxon regiment for Maurice/GaPa in 15mm. These were nice and quick to do - I will post a picture when I have sorted the flag and varnished them, so they can come off the "painting stick". Still got the barbarians to finish .... Really struggling with these for some reason. But they will be finished before I start the Skitarii Kill Team.

Kill Team - Alien Tree thingies

Righty Ho! A while ago when the collective was getting into Kill Team ... Which we still haven't played, Steedo passed me the terrian pieces he got with his starter set.
Some alien jungle tree things and if I recall correctly they were a royal pain to assemble (see post from a while ago).
Anyway I have managed to paint the tree things ....

To be honest they were a bit of a fiddle to do - I was hoping for some quick dry brush action but they had vines and fungi detailed on them so they took longer than I would have hoped (liked!).
Also some area were a tad difficult to get to once assembled - but the touch up work if bits had been left on sprues would have been just as much of a nightmare.

Not too bad a job as long as people don't look too closely.
