Kill Team - Test Game

Snake-eyes and Steedo popped around for a test game of Kill Team (which was disrupted with discussions of the fiasco the UK is making with Brexit - stupid thing to do anyway). I had pointed out 2 teams, written out the cards and printed out quick play sheets. The fight would be between Primaris Space Marines and Imperial Guard Sicons. Snake-eyes and Steedo (who was also working on checking the rules) took command of the Space Marines - 3 Intercessors and 3 Reivers, while I had 8 Scions - with quiet a lot of heavy weapons. We set up the terrain, placed objectives and then picked the scouting plans - which cancelled each other out (set traps Snake-eyes and I pick clear traps).

Then we got on with the game - Snake-eyes winning the initiative and moving first and being able to shoot first in the shooting phase. It started well for Snake-eyes causing a flesh wound on my Flamer guy - but the first kill (out if action) went to the plucky guardsman with a Melta taking out at intercessor. I have to say one of my objectives was to keep my forces out of close combat with the Reivers, this tactic had major ramifications in the final turn. The next couple of turns saw a little more manoeuvring and shooting, but surprisingly few casualties to either side - either Snake-eyes missing (much to Steedo's annoyance) or my troops hit but failing to wound the uber primaris Space Marines. Snake-eyes and myself also discovered - or did he let it slip - Steedo's strategy for winning games - focus on the objective .... As he made Snake-eyes keep troops on the objective markers. As I pointed out earlier I was trying to avoid close combat with the Space Marines so my tactic had been to shot them off/away, but when one of the cowardly space Wombles is hiding behind a container it's rather difficult to draw a line of sight.

So come the final turn my advance wasn't enough to force the Marines off all of the markers or contesting them - not helped when I supercharged the plasma gun to vaporise a Marine only to get snake-eyes myself (the irony) and see my man vaporised ......
The final scores on the doors were 2 points (one objective held) to the Steedo and Snake-eyes Space Marines and 0 to me (we were contesting the other objective). Casualties were 1 Marine OOA (out of action), 1 with a flesh wound and one with a wound. For the guard it was 2 OOA, and 3 flesh wounds.
We had a really good evening playing Kill Team and we had forgotten to use the Command Points and the associated tactics which would go along with them - I think these will make the game better as the timing of playing some of them could change the outcomes of combats significantly. I think we also forgot some of the special rules for our factions as well.
I did think that we would get two games in but too much chatting got in the way. So it should keep me inspired to finish off some more terrain - the Skitarii to the table.
